Scientist in UK Discoverd HIV Cure for Patients

News like this have been springing up for over a decade about discovery of HIV Cure that’s 100% effective and have no after effect.

Some UK scientists and clinicians who working on a trial to test a possible lasting solution to HIV infection said that they have made remarkable progress after a test carried on a patient showed no sign of the virus after treatment.

The research is being carried out by five of top universities in UK with NHS support, they standard antiretroviral drugs with a drug that reactivates dormant HIV and a vaccine that induces the immune system to destroy the infected cells.

Antiretroviral drugs on their own are highly effective at stopping the virus from spreading or reproducing but do not eliminate the disease, so treatment must be taken throughout a lifetime.

The trial which combines of fifty patients, early tests on the first person to complete the treatment show no signs of the virus in his blood.

Though there is still a long way to go before the treatment can be termed a success as the virus has previously reappeared in people thought have been CURED by using antiretroviral drugs.
This means that the researchers cannot be sure the HIV has been cured finally. Nevertheless, there are optimistic over this recent development.

The Managing director of the National Institute for Health Research Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure, Mark Samuel said

“This is one of the first serious attempts for a full HIV cure, We are exploring the possibility of curing HIV finally. This is a huge challenge and it’s still early days but the progress we have made has been remarkable”
HIV can hide from the immune system in dormant cells where even highly sophisticated modern testing cannot find it.

But this treatment endeavours to make the virus into emerging from its hiding places and then trigger the body’s immune system to recognise it and attack it, an approach that has been called “kick and kill”.

There are almost 37 million people living with HIV worldwide and about 34 million people have died from this deadly virus.

It is very difficulty to declare a patient cure from HIV since the case of a girl in Mississippi who was given a strong course of antiretroviral drugs for almost 30 hours of her birth in 2010 after her mother was found to be HIV positive.

Treatment continued until the hospital lost contact with the mother after 18 months. When the mother and child reappeared five months later the baby had no HIV virus in her blood, hoping that the early intervention had cured her, but two years later the virus appeared.

So until a serious teat is carried out on the patients, after so many years, it will be difficult to make it public that they have discovered HIV cure but the MD is positive they are successful.

Has Anyone be Cured from HIV?

Apart from Timothy Ray Brown, an American HIV patient treated in Germany there’s no one who have been cured from this deadly virus.

Timothy was cured by undergoing a bone marrow transplant to replace his own cancerous cells with stem cells that would remake his immune system.

The Doctor was lucky to found a donor who was naturally resistant to HIV infection due to a genetic mutation that blocks HIV from entering his cells.

It is not advised by professional as stem cell transplants are difficult and potentially dangerous for the recipient but only undertaken where they can save a life.
